Isolation Diaries: Current Skincare Routine!

How are we all doing? Are you still surviving? I think I am… then again I also think I am not anxious about seeing everyone again which I definitely am…  But, alas, anxiety and me are just besties now so I will be okay.. I think?!

Annnyway, I digress. I thought for this weeks post I would talk you guys through my current skincare routine. Throughout lockdown (like most people I would say?!) I have barely worn make-up. I used to wear make-up every single day, give or take, as I wore it to work and on most weekends. However, I decided I would rather sleep than put make-up on, and I wanted to improve my skin. I wanted to up the care, work on the breakouts and remove as much scaring as I could through skincare and exposure to the sun.

So, I thought why not share what I have been doing for my skincare, as I genuinely can see a difference in my skin. My breakouts are pretty much non-existent, my skin looks healthy, clear and looked after and I am loving the bare skin life!

Alongside the moisturisers, toners, masks and oils I also drink a LOT of water every single day. Drinking water really helps with breakouts, dark circles around your eyes and helps flush out the toxins to brighten the complexion. So drink ya water as well as moisturising, it’ll always help!

I have linked all the products I mention throughout the post on the name of the products, and I have listed them all in order that I use them, because I am kind like that 😉


-D A Y T I M E   S K I N C A R E-

So, a couple of years ago I decided to seriously cut back on my skincare. On a whim I thought that my overloading of skincare was actually causing more harm than good, especially with my use of facial scrubs as they were spreading the germs around my face, rather than removing them. So, here is my updated extremely basic morning skincare routine for you to feast your eyes on!


C L E A N S E R 

When I first wake up I have to wash my face just to freshen and actually wake myself up even more, and remove any sleep that is lingering around my eyes 😉

To do this I take a cotton wool pad with some of the Garnier Miceller Cleansing Water for sensitive skin on the cotton pad and wipe that all over my skin, my eyes and down my neck. This just makes sure your skin is clean and fresh, removes any sleep or sweat from the night, and really helps to refresh and wake you up.


M O I S T U R I S E R 

I recently started using a new day-time moisturiser and I am obsessed, and it is The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow-Protect moisturiser. This moisturiser has SPF 30 and claims on the bottle to brighten the complexion, moisturise and protect you from the sun. I really like this moisturiser so far, it hasn’t aggravated my skin and caused breakouts and feels really nice and luxurious on the skin.

The one downside is it stings like a bitch if you accidentally get some in your eye, so be careful of that 😉


E Y E   C R E A M 

Yes, I FINALLY added an eye cream to my skincare! Hallelujah! Praise the skincare gods! I recently picked up The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye cream and I add a small amount onto my rung fingers and gently blend that into the skin under my eyes and onto my eyelids as well.

Top Tip: always be suuuuper gentle when doing anything around your eyes as the skin is crazy delicate!


-N I G H T T I M E   S K I N C A R E-

In the evenings I always try and use more intensive moisturising products to ensure I am locking in as much moisture as I can overnight. I do use a few more products in the evenings, as most people do, but it genuinely takes me 5 minutes to do all of these steps. No joke. If it took any longer I most likely would not do them, as  want nice skin but I am also incredibly lazy… 😉


A C I D   T O N E R 

I have mentioned this toner time and time again, and it is the Pixi Glow Tonic toner. It is an acid toner which also acts as an exfoliater to remove dead skin cells, and it also helps with scarring you may have from breakouts, and really helps to brighten the skins complexion. It is a gentle toner and you could use it every day if you wanted, but I alternate it with the toner metioned below. I add a bit of this onto a cotton pad, wipe it all around my face and down my neck (avoid ya eyes, obvs) and then it’s all done. Quick and easy!


M O I S T U R I S I N G    T O N E R 

I recently added this to my skincare routine (can you tell I did a Body Shop online order recently? 😉 ) and I have really enjoyed it. This The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisturising Toner, it helps lock in the skins natural moisture and lets your skin absorb moisturisers and oils more easily.
I grab a cotton wool pad, add some of this to the pad and wipe it all over my face (avoiding the eyes) and then I am all done. It has a really nice rose scent, which I love, but deffo won’t be everyone’s cup of tea! So far I have really enjoyed this toner.


F A C I A L   O I L 

I picked up this facial oil quite a while ago and I am in love with it! This is the Pixi Overnight Retinol Oil and it is designed to restore the skins natural plumpness, and reduce the appearance of fine lines over time. It also claims to minimise pores as well as smoothing and evening the skin tone.  I have loved this oil so far, I feel like it really is doing a lot to lock in moisture and help my skin live it’s best life!

I take 5-6 drops of this in my hand, rub it between my hands to warm it up and then press it all over my face and down my neck. It feels so luxurious and I really have loved it to far!


M O I S T U R I S E R 

I have used this moisturiser in the evenings for a good few months now and I really have enjoyed it! I feels really loved and thick, which is what you can expect from a nighttime mosituriser as they need to sit on the skin for longer, and I absolutely love using this.

It is the Nivea Q10 Power Anti-wrinkle and Firming Night Moisturiser  it is so affordable and so far I have really loved it. I can’t say whether it has helped to reduce fine lines or wrinkles as who can tell, but I have really enjoyed it either way. It helps really moisturise and care for my skin, and doesn’t cause breakouts or irritation which is always a win!


E Y E    C R E A M

For eye cream in the evenings for now I just use the Vitamin E Eye Cream from The Body Shop, so I won’t go into any real detail about it as I use in the mornings too, but I add the same amount in the evenings and apply it in the same way as I do in the mornings!


S L E E P I N G    M A S K

I only added this to my routine at the start of lockdown and I can definitely see a difference in my skin with nights that I do use it and nights that I forget to use it! It is the Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask from The Body Shop and it is heaven!

This mask is designed to restore the plumpness of the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and helps to brighten the skins complexion. I really do like this mask, it feels so lovely as you are putting it on, and as I said I can truly see a difference from days where I do and don’t use it.
It is such a strange consistency though, it is more like a thick gel than a moisturiser, which is good as it means it sits on your skin for a while before it starts to sink in, which is what you need from a mask!


So there you have it, lovelies! That is my updated skincare routine!

As I have said, this routine honestly takes me around 5 mins in the morning and around the same in the evenings. It really isn’t a huge time constraint and genuinely has helped my skin be it’s best self!
