So, it has been a long while since I updated you guys on what I am using on my skin to take care of it and why I changed up my routine! My skin went through a really bad patch of breakouts from the Summer of 2017 and progressively got worse and worse towards the end of 2017 and into 2018. I decided to change up what I was using on my skin, strip everything back and remove the harsher products I was using to see if it helped clear my skin up a bit! And, magically, it worked wonders! I will show you what I am currently using and why I decided to use these ones 🙂
~ Make-up Removal ~
Over the past few months I have been using gel cleansers that allow you to melt away and then wash off your make-up, I find them so refreshing and lovely to use and they really work well at removing my make-up! I have been obsessing over the Garnier Micellar Gel Wash to remove my make-up at the end of the day and it work’s like a dream on my skin! You simply wet your face, pump some of the cleanser into your hand, lather it up and massage it all over your face then wash it away. I find this way of removing my make-up so lovely and refreshing and my skin has really responded well to this make-up remover!
I always follow up the make-up cleanser with a pore cleansing facial wash and recently I have absolutely loved using the Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser so give my face an extra clean and make sure I am clearing out as much dirt as possible to reduce further breakouts! This cleanser is really lovely and makes your face feel squeaky clean and fresh after you have used it! It also doesn’t cause any extra breakouts which is a huge win from me!
~ Scrubs ~
For scrubs I have been using more daily scrubs rather than the harsher scrubs that you use a couple of times a week. I noticed by skin would really flare up if I was using a harsh scrub so I changed over to daily ones and also used ones that were specifically for clearing up your skin, working on acne or refreshing the face to remove any grime and dirt from the day.
I have been obsessed with the Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 Mask, Scrub and Wash that is specifically for oily skin, which I do get in my T-Zone area. I used this as a scrub and a mask as I was already using other face washes so I was more wanting to clear my skin up a bit, remove any extra dirt and try and clear my pores out too. This stuff worked like a dream and, if you use it as a mask, it honestly leaves your skin feeling like silk.. what more could you want?! There is also a charcoal version of this scrub, wash and mask from Garnier and I alternate between the two to deep clean my face and use as face masks ❤
~ Face Masks ~
So, I did stop using face masks for a while when my skin was really bad, however, I have started using some I loved before my skin started playing up and they seem to be working okay without any scary breakouts so I will share what I love using on my skin on a pamper day!
My favourite mask I discovered about a year ago is from Lush and it is the Mask of Magnaminty. Oh my W O R D if you haven’t tried this product and you’re on the hunt for a new face mask I urge you to try this one! It is so refreshing, so cleansing and so lovely all around! You can also scrub with this mask as well as it has little ground up beans which act as a nice exfoliator! I love this mask so much, I pop it on just before I lose myself in bubbles and a book in my bath and just let it work its magic! I leaves my skin so refreshed, so clean and so damn soft I cannot get enough of it! I absolutely love this product!
Another mask I have used from Lush that I do like, buuut, I don’t love it as much as the previous one mentioned! It is called Catastrophe Cosmetic and is so smoothing, calming and lovely on the skin! I once again throw this mask on whilst I am watching a film in bed or losing myself in the bubble mountain I create in the bath! My skin always looks super glowy and healthy after using this mask and it does help keep my skin looking calm as it has camomile in it to help reduce redness and irritation. I just don’t think anything will replace the Mask of Magnaminty though ❤
~ Blackhead Clearing Strips ~
Recently I have been using nose strips to try and rid my nose of any nasty blackheads and clogged pores so I picked the Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Strips and I think they work okay. I don’t think any pore strips actually work fantastically well, or none that I have tried anyway, but these ones do clear some of the stuff out of the pores and make my nose feel all smooth after I have used them so I ain’t too mad! I only use these maybe once a week so maybe I should start using them more.. who knows..
~ Moisturiser ~
Absolutely everyone knows that moisturising your skin is essential to replenish and care for your skin as well as work to keep your skin nice and supple for as long as humanly possible! I used to used a heavier moisturiser in the evenings, however, I noticed that it was leaving my skin feeling a bit greasy and overall was not helping with the breakouts I mentioned earlier to I stripped this back and added in a super moisturising but lighter on the skin moisturiser which is the Simple Rich Replenishing Moisturiser. This sounds scary as it has ‘rich’ in the name, however, although it is a rich moisturiser it does not feel heaby on my skin and sinks in really nicely without excess product floating around on my skin for a while! I really love this moisturiser and I think my skin has really appreciated me using this instead of previous products!
I have also loved using the Simple Kind to Skin Eye Balm to soothe my eyes in the mornings and evenings. This balm helps to soothe your eyes as well as reduce puffiness and redness that can occur when you’re tired and so on. I love this stuff and would highly recommend! It feels so heavenly on the skin around my eyes and I feel it has really been working to reduce the redness and puffiness around my eyes!
I have also been using the Elemis Hydra-Boost Sensitive Day Cream which was kindly gifted to me for my birthday from my parents and I have loved using it, so much so I popped it into my March Faves which will be linked here 😉
It sinks into my skin really nice, leaves me feeling silky smooth and isn’t heavy & oily which is a god send for me and my skin! Also, as it is for sensitive skin it is very unlikely to cause any breakouts so massive thumbs up from me! ❤
So, there we go guys, my slightly stripped down skincare routine for you! So, for a re-cap, I remove my make-up with my gel cleansers daily, I wash with my charcoal wash daily and sometimes scrub as well and moisturise. I use the face masks maybe once or twice a week and the pore strips once or twice a week too! So, it may look like a lot but I only use 4 products at most on a day-to-day basis to keep my skin happy, healthy and breakout free! I hope this helps some of you and if you use any of the same or even different products let me know down in the comments! I would love to know if I am missing any skincare gems!
Lots of love and talk soon,
