Guilty Pleasure Films

Everyone has those films that they return to when they can’t find anything else to watch, want a good cry or want to feel good about themselves by watching something comforting. Here I will list my top five Guilty Pleasure films. Films that make me feel at home, films that make me feel happy, comfortable and that make me laugh, smile and sometimes even cry. These are films I will return to time and time again without feeling any guilt whatsoever!

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging.

This film is based on the Georgia Nicholson books and it is the most cheesey, hilarious, cringe-worthy and lovely films. I loved the books when I was a teen and this film just brought them to life in such a lovely way. It is a typical ‘chick flick’ kind of film, very much based on teenage dramas, love, heart ache, over exaggeration and general embarrassment. If you’re looking for a light-hearted, cliche film then give this one a shot. I will go back to this forever and always.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

This is one of my absolute favourite Disney films and has been since I was a small child. I can remember even having a game based on this film on a floppy disk for the first desktop computer we had at home! Haha! It is one of the sweetest, saddest and beautiful films I have ever watched. It’s the story of a young man who has been shunned by society and finds friendship, love and affection again. If you haven’t watched this film and love Disney as much as I do (hard to get there, trust me!) then please give it a try!

Dirty Dancing.

I can remember the first time I got lost in Baby and Jonny’s world as if it was yesterday and I can also remember longing to be able to dance and style myself just like Penny. This film is truly amazing. It is one of my all time favourite films and it is honestly stunning to watch. It is based on a love story intermingled with dancing, family dramas and life changing experiences that make this film a true classic. I can watch this film time and time again without getting bored of it. I still get just as invested in the story as the first time I watched this film. It is a true favourite for me and my family and it brings back many a fond memory of snuggling up by a coal fire with my whole family and watching the story unfold. If you haven’t watched this yet then you have to. I would happily carry a watermelon any day, and I refuse to ever be put into a corner!

Juno.

The simplistic story of teen pregnancy, adoption, love, friendship and stereotypical teen drama. This story is one that makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. Following Juno’s story throughout her pregnancy, seeing her make mistakes, trust the wrong people and struggle with decisions like any teen does is so realistic and covers a lot of bases that young teens experience year in and year out. I honestly adore this film, it makes you realize that you can be anyone you want to be, act however you want and fall in love with whoever you want. It is a really feel good film, if you haven’t ventured into this world then I would seriously recommend you do. It is very basic, simple and there are no complicated plot twists or unrealistic situations. It is straight to the point and brilliant.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I am a self-confessed Potter-head and I truly love everything to do with the magical world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, out of the films, the one that I go back to time and time again and enjoy just as much as the first time I watched it is the Half-Blood Prince. Even though it is full of sadness and heartbreak, it is also one of the most magical films with the return of Professor Slughorn, the focus towards potions and how incredible they are as well as the humour and happiness that intertwines the story. This film is beautiful and tragic. I may even tuck myself up with a cup of tea, blanket and watch it this evening. Harry Potter films are a true comfort to me, I find it so easy to lose myself in the magical world and adventures that they take me on and they are truly incredible. If you are one of the crazy people who hasn’t watched any Harry Potter films then please give them a go. They are beautiful films.

So there you have it, 5 of my Guilty Pleasure films, which in all reality, I feel more pleasure for than guilt! I adore the films listed and one day I will do a list of my favourite I’m sure but for now, these are more my comfort zone films that I know will perk me up when I’m down with no shadow of a doubt!

If you have seen any or try any from this post then enjoy them, they are all pretty magical in their own way.
